Muncie, IN –Families, children and community members are invited to come to a “Dive In” FREE swim event to show your support for increase access to High Quality Pre-K opportunities for more children in Delaware County and in Indiana. Come join us for FREE at Tuhey pool on August 9, 2016 from 4 – 8pm. Free novelty ice cream will be available from Baskin Robbins while supplies last. BY5, as the leading voice for raising awareness about the importance of kindergarten readiness in Delaware County , is sponsoring this event for the community. Information will be available with regards to the “All IN 4 Pre-K”, and families will have an opportunity to share their story about what Pre-k means for them and their children.
What we know in Delaware County is:
- More than 50% of children come to Kindergarten without ever attending preschool in our community.
- 54% of children coming into Kindergarten in Delaware County are deemed “Not Ready” to be successful.
- Seven in 10 (71%) Indiana families and voters surveyed in a representative statewide poll support a bold expansion of pre-k to many more low- and moderate-income families.
“Delaware County was not one of the 5 pilot communities as “On My Way Pre-K” county nearly 3 years ago, but strides have been made to increase access for more children. 8% more children are coming to Kindergarten having been to preschool compared to 3 years ago, but we have a long way to go to ensure any family in Delaware County who wants the opportunity for their child can access it. A child’s educational foundation should not be based on a lottery system, or on their zip code”. – Carrie Bale, Executive Director of BY5 Early Childhood Initiative, Inc.
