Muncie, IN—In an effort to encourage students to eat breakfast, MCS in collaboration with Chartwells, is piloting a Universal Breakfast program at Grissom, Longfellow and Sutton Elementary Schools and Southside Middle School. The first day saw 400 students participating with 689 during the second day. This nearly 60% increase is a good indicator that the breakfast program will be a success. At the other eight schools, the number of students eating breakfast was 718.

Stephanie Bond, Resident District Manager for Chartwells, says “We have had phenomenal feedback from the children and chose a more retail-inspired menu to raise participation and spark interest in our cafes. Some items include blueberry bash waffles, mini bagels stuffed with cream cheese, sausage pancake wraps, and low-fat yogurt parfaits with fresh fruit and graham bites.”

As one of the pilot locations, Gerry Moore, Longfellow principal, shared his experience, “This is really a great opportunity for all of our students.  The number of students eating breakfast has increased each day.  Students are eating all of their breakfast and are going to class full and ready to learn
