MUNCIE, IN— Jeff Howe, chairman of Champions for a Safe Community Fund, announced today a new partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie. (The Muncie Journal live-streamed today’s press conference held at the  Boys & Girls Club of Muncie. You may view that video here.)

Champions for a Safe Community Fund supports the prevention of violence and the protection and care of victims of violence in East Central Indiana.

In this collaboration, the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie will assist in the administration of events like 100 Men Who Cook, Old National Bank’s premier community fundraising event.

“We could not be more pleased to welcome aboard the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie,” said Howe, President of Northeast Region of Old National Bank. “We looked at many possible partners from our community and chose this organization for its leadership and ongoing work with children and teenagers on critical issues like safety, health, academics and character.

The collaboration firmly places community safety at center stage for one of Muncie’s most exciting fundraisers of the year.

“We are honored to be a part of 100 Men Who Cook and Champions for a Safe Community Fund,” said Micah Maxwell, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Muncie.

Howe, a Club Kid himself, remembers feeling safe at a Boys & Girls Club, when his father was fighting in Vietnam. “My mom knew I needed something to do and someplace to go where I wouldn’t think about anything else,” Howe explained. “For me, it was the Boys Club.”

For the past six years, Old National Bank has presented 100 Men Who Cook. It has raised nearly a half million dollars to help the most vulnerable in East Central Indiana. The event draws more than 1,100 people.

This year’s event is Saturday, November 5th at the Horizon Convention Center.

“Our partnership means we’re all in,” said Juli Metzger, president of the Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors. “Throughout the year, we’ll shine a light on issues of community violence and ongoing community initiatives. We’ll work hard to raise money for 100 Men Who Cook and other possible events that benefits both the Club and Champions for a Safe Community Fund.”
