MUNCIE, IN—Muncie Altrusa Club members have completed the distribution of over 5,800 books to every pre-kindergarten through fifth grade student in the Muncie Community Schools, Burris, St. Michael Catholic School, and Inspire Academy.
The project was funded in part from a $4000.00 grant from the Altrusa International Foundation and the Muncie Altrusa Club. Classroom Connections of East Central Indiana was also a partner in helping to obtain, store and distribute the books.
Once the books were purchased, they were labeled and sorted by grade level before being taken to the nine different schools. Altrusa members were at each of the schools to distribute the books. More than 20 Muncie Altrusa members worked on the project.
Book titles included children’s classics, sports related topics, gaming, etc. Books in Spanish were purchased for the students in the dual language program at Westview Elementary. The books given to the students were theirs to keep and take home.
Dr. Kwiatkowski said, “Thank you for making me aware of this great opportunity for our students and for your effort to get books in Spanish for our dual language students.”
