Muncie, IN—The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. awarded $597,500 to 14 non-profit organizations during the first Quarterly Competitive Grant cycle of 2021.
The Community Foundation’s purpose is to improve the quality of life in Muncie and Delaware County for this generation and generations to come. Quarterly Competitive Grants are awarded to fund projects for which there is a demonstrable community benefit in one of the following areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education, and community betterment.
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses, and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to non-profit organizations and agencies. To date, more than $57 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
A Better Way Services, Inc. received $57,000 (from John and Janice Fisher Unrestricted Endowment Fund, Linda and Connie Gregory Fund, Julian and Suzanne Gresham Fund, Jim and Mary Rosema Fund, Martin D. and Helen B. Schwartz Unrestricted Named Endowment Fund, Hamer and Phyllis Shafer Fund, Jeanne and John Smith Unrestricted Fund, David and Mary Jane Sursa Fund, Wayne E. and Carolyn K. Thomas Fund, Joseph and Janet Wilson Unrestricted Endowment Fund, and Faye Wingate Fund) to defray the cost of providing advocacy and services for victims of domestic violence or sexual assault and their children, a 24-hour suicide hotline and a general crisis hotline.
Ball State University Foundation received $17,500 (from the Economic Development Fund and KAKATU Foundation/David and Joanna Meeks Fund) for the expansion of the Dr. Joe and Alice Rinard Orchid Greenhouse.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Muncie received $67,500 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, and the Stefan and Joan Anderson Unrestricted Fund, Pat and Jane Botts Fund, KAKATU Foundation/David and Joanna Meeks Fund, Morris Youth Fund, Ontario Systems – Wil Davis and Ron Fauquher Fund, David and Mary Jane Sursa Fund, and Youth as Resources Fund) to support operations of the clubs, which serves 600 registered youth in our community.
Bridges Community Services received $40,000 (from the Louisa and Waldo Beebe Unrestricted Endowment Fund, Muncie Power Products Community Impact Fund, Old National Bank Fund, Hamer and Phyllis Shafer Fund, Jeanne and John Smith Fund, and Joseph and Janet Wilson Unrestricted Endowment Fund) to recruit, retain, and develop qualified staff.
Cardinal Greenway Inc. received $30,000 (from the Louisa and Waldo Beebe Unrestricted Endowment Fund, John and Janice Fisher Quality of Place Endowment Fund, Beulah M. Frogge Fund, Jeff and Beth Lang Fund, LEAP Managed IT Fund, and Ontario Systems – Wil Davis and Ron Fauquher Fund) to support the cost of operations.
Community Enhancement Projects, Inc. received $35,000 (from the Ball Corporation Community Betterment Fund, John and Janice Fisher Quality of Place Endowment Fund, Mike and Cathy Galliher Fund, Historical Preservation Fund, Bill and Nancy Mitchell Living Well in Delaware County Fund, Mary Kate Pingry Fund, and Faye Wingate Fund) to support the construction and installation of signage for the Muncie Memory Spiral in Muncie’s Heekin Park.
Cornerstone Center for the Arts received $55,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, and The Endowment for the Arts Fund, Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Fund, Gordon and Pam Cox Fund, Jon and Barbara Moll Fund, David and Mary Jane Sursa Fund, and Faye Wingate Fund) to support operational expenses and make technological updates to the historical building.
Greater Muncie, IN Habitat for Humanity, Inc. received $80,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Edmund F. and Virgina B. Ball Fund, J. Robert and Joanne N. Baur Fund, Jane Harrell Buckles Fund, William and Margaret Dutton Fund, John and Janice Fisher Unrestricted Endowment Fund, Roni Johnson Fund, Mid-West Metal Products Fund, MutualBank Charitable Foundation Fund, Shafer/Muncie Power Products Legacy Fund, Mary Jane Sursa Fund, Wayne E. and Carolyn K. Thomas Fund, and Mac and Lila Warrell Endowment Fund) to support Habitat’s 2021 housing program and defray the cost of a new administration building for Greater Muncie, IN Habitat for Humanity.
Home Savers of Delaware County received $57,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, Bassett Family Fund, Day Star Center Fund, Beulah M. Frogge Fund, Jeanne and John Smith Fund, and Nancy J. Smith Fund) to provide urgent home repairs for low-income homeowners.
Muncie Children’s Museum received $50,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, and the 5000th Charitable Fund, Inc. Fund, Esther Ball Fund, J. Robert and Joanne N. Baur Fund, Gordon and Pam Cox Fund, Jane E. Hughes Fund, KAKATU Foundation/David and Joanna Meeks Fund, Michael O. and Nicole T. Lunsford Fund, Morris Youth Fund, MutualBank Charitable Foundation Fund, Martin D. and Helen B. Schwartz Unrestricted Named Endowment Fund, and Charles and Claudia Sursa Unrestricted Named Endowment Fund) to support the More to Explore Campaign to create new educational and interactive exhibits for children.
Project Leadership received $30,000 (from the Gary Addison Fund, Edmund F. and Virgina B. Ball Fund, Edgar Faulkner Sr./Ermal S. Roundtree Fund, Gayle and Jeannine Harrold Fund, John C. Kelly and Marcia Ressler Kelly Fund, Laura Stanely Keppler Fund, Francis Lafferty Fund, and Morris Youth Fund) to support college and career and social and emotional programming as part of a Project Leadership pivot to virtual services, and to assist the sustainability of the Delaware County Comprehensive Counseling Coalition.
Shafer Leadership Academy received $18,500 (from the Bassett Family Fund, Patrick and Marilyn Clearly Fund, Ron and Cheryl Fauquher Fund, John and Katherine Littler Fund, Daniel and Catharine Stewart Fund, and the Gary and Amy Thomas Fund) to support the salary for the newly created virtual programs manager position and to support for the non-profit executive directors group.
Urban Light CDC received $20,000 (from the John and Janice Fisher Quality of Place Endowment Fund, Jeff and Beth Lang Fund, and Jim and Mary Rosema Fund) to defray the cost of neighborhood engagement and housing revitalization in Muncie’s South Central and Industry neighborhoods.
YWCA Central Indiana received $40,000 (from The Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation, and the Gordon and Pam Cox Fund, Linda and Connie Gregory Fund, MutualBank Charitable Foundation Fund, Kent Shuff and Steve Fennimore Fund, Jeanne and John Smith Fund, and Mary Jane Sursa Fund) to defray the costs of the Emergency Shelter and C.O.T.S. Stay programs.
