Muncie, IN—Ivy Tech Community College is holding a special event to celebrate the new exciting transformation that downtown Muncie will begin to see over the next few months. On Aug. 2, the community can come say goodbye to the Old Star Press Building at the corner of Main and High streets. The building is set to be demolished the week of Aug. 6.
“We are really excited about Demo Day. We want the community to come out and share this exciting time with us,” Ivy Tech Chancellor Jeffrey Scott said. “Anyone who comes out can take a swing at our wall and donate to the New Beginnings Scholarship.”
The day will begin with an express enrollment event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Old Star Press building. Ivy Tech staff will be available to help students through the enrollment process including: FYIvy, assessment, advising and registering for classes. They can also get assistance with financial aid applications.
At 4 p.m. a free community Zumba with Mel class will begin. Food trucks will arrive at 5 p.m. and IU Health Ball Memorial will have free wellness checks from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Pepper Construction will have a special demonstration for people to see and experience the new building.
A special demo ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. with words from Mayor Dennis Tyler, and Ivy Tech’s president Sue Ellspermann. The Carl Storie Band will be perform at 6:30 p.m. and a special demolition light show sponsored by Indiana Michigan Power will follow the band’s performance.
