MUNCIE, IN – The City of Muncie has announced that it will be withdrawing Annexation Ordinance 29-24, which pertained to portions of the Farmington neighborhood. This decision will be formalized during the City Council meeting scheduled for March 3rd, where the ordinance will be officially removed from the agenda.

At the request of the administration, Councilman Jeff Green, who sponsored the ordinance, will motion for its withdrawal. Mayor Dan Ridenour shared his thoughts, noting, “Sometimes, when you’re trying to date someone and you can see that you don’t align, you get the hint. It’s clear the residents of Farmington have concerns, and we respect that.”

The withdrawal follows significant feedback from residents in the Farmington area who expressed reluctance regarding the annexation. After listening to these concerns, the administration decided it would be in the best interest of the community to step back and reevaluate the city’s approach.

While Ordinance 29-24 will be withdrawn, the city has already successfully annexed three properties. These include 12 acres directly east of Farmington, a parcel at the intersection of Morrison and Bethel, and Westminster Village. These annexations are separate from Ordinance 30-24, which concerns a portion of the Heron Pointe neighborhood. The residents in Heron Pointe have shown considerable acceptance, and that process will continue as planned.

Mayor Ridenour added, “Our goal is to ensure that all of Muncie’s neighborhoods thrive and grow together, but we must do so with the support and understanding of those who will be directly affected. We are committed to being responsive to the needs of our residents and will continue to engage with the community as we move forward.”
