STATEHOUSE—State Rep. Elizabeth Rowray (R-Yorktown) has introduced legislation that would expand eligibility for the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) program, offering additional support for foster families.
“This bill is about supporting the families who take on the vital but challenging role of fostering children,” Rowray said. “By extending CCDF assistance to other children in the home of a foster parent, we would be ensuring these families have the resources they need to provide the right care and opportunities for all their children.”
House Bill 1248 would make households with a foster parent eligible for CCDF assistance, regardless of the number of biological children in the home, as long as they meet income eligibility requirements.
This change would provide additional support for children in foster care and other children in the foster family’s care, helping parents access affordable child care.
“This legislation would ensure foster families have access to resources they need,” Rowray said. “It is an important step toward making child care more accessible and affordable for those who open their homes to children in need.”
House Bill 1248 has passed the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee and now moves to the House for further consideration.
