MUNCIE, IN—The League of Women Voters of Indiana, of which the League of Women Voters of Muncie-Delaware County is a chapter, has added a section on its website called “Bill Track 50.”

The service helps the League, as well as the public, monitor the progress of some of the hundreds of bills that legislators are introducing in the Indiana General Assembly during the 2025 long session.

The bills the League will track fall into one of six categories: voter rights, education, LGBTQ+, medical education and medical practice, natural resources, and women’s health and reproduction.

For each of the bills listed, the League reveals if it supports, strongly supports, opposes or strongly opposes a bill.

“One role of the League is to influence public policy through education and advocacy,” said Linda Hanson, Indiana League of Women Voters president and spokesperson for the Muncie-Delaware County League. “We take positions on issues, but as a nonpartisan organization, we do not support or oppose any political party or candidate.”

Citizens who want to write their representatives should check out the Indiana League’s Action Network. Each Action Network button at the bottom of the website features some of the bills the Indiana and Muncie/Delaware County leagues are tracking. When users of Action Network click on a bill, it provides them a letter that they can send to a list of representatives either in the Indiana General Assembly or the U.S. Congress.

And here is a list of men and women who represent Delaware County residents in the General Assembly for those who might want to write or call their representatives about bills not highlighted on Action Network.

Another role of the League that complements its bill tracking service and Action Network is to inform citizens and voters through election resources, which include its free “Civics Handbook – Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy.” The “Civics Handbook” is available online – in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. Copies of the handbook also are available from all Muncie Public Library branches.

Categories in the handbook include information about the U.S. Constitution; the three branches of government: executive, legislative and judicial; lawmaking and how bills become law; presidential powers; participating in state government; participating in local government; voting; voting rights; and 10 ways to participate in politics and make a difference.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots, public policy and educational organization. It encourages citizens to be informed and participate in government.

People of all different governing beliefs are eligible to join local chapters of the League of Women Voters. No invitation is needed. To join the Muncie-Delaware County League, go to this site.
