MUNCIE, IN—Because National Voter Registration Day is Sept. 17, the League of Women Voters of Muncie-Delaware County encourages all citizens to check to make sure they are registered to vote by going to VOTE411.org, an award-winning website the national headquarters of the League of Women Voters supports.

If citizens discover they are not registered to vote, they can register to vote on VOTE411.org.

If a person wants to register in person, the Muncie-Delaware County League will register people to vote from noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Kennedy Branch Library.

Citizens also can go to the Delaware County Voter Registration Office. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Delaware County Building, 100 W. Main St., Room 104. The last day to register to vote is Monday, Oct. 7. Early voting at the Delaware County Voter Registration Office starts Tuesday, Oct. 8.

“Another place you can register to vote is at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, but again, all citizens, no matter how you have registered to vote, should check on VOTE411.org to make sure you are registered,” said Linda Hanson, president of the Indiana League of Women Voters and spokesperson for the Muncie-Delaware County League. “Indiana has tried to clean up voter rolls, which is necessary, by removing deceased people and people who have moved out of state, so your registration might have been canceled by mistake.”

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots, public policy and educational organization. It encourages informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. It does not support or oppose any political party or candidate.

The League of Women Voters Education Fund and local leagues work to register and provide voters with election information through the election resources of VOTE411.org and candidate forums.

People of all different governing beliefs are eligible to join local chapters of the League of Women Voters. No invitation is needed. To join the Muncie-Delaware County League, go to this site.
