MUNCIE, IN—Do you have Halloween costumes and accessories you are no longer using? Maybe your kids have outgrown their costumes, or they have moved on to different interests and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle outfit just won’t cut it. Whatever the reason, Muncie Public Library (MPL) wants your costumes and accessories for a Halloween Costume Swap! Now through Friday, October 11, all MPL branches will accept donated costumes, accessories, and other Halloween items, such as trick-or-treat buckets. All items will be steam-cleaned and sorted and made available at a Halloween Costume Swap.
According to Alan Kornblau, MPL Library Director, costume swaps were popular events at libraries he has previously served. “A costume swap is a great way to “treat” others to gently used costumes so everyone can enjoy the spirit of the season,” he said. “Muncie Public Library is happy to create this event which we hope can become a Halloween tradition for our community.”
When people donate costumes and other items, they will receive a special “ticket” to get first dibs at the swap. Following the ticket holder swap, the event will be open to everyone (while supplies last) to get a free costume even if they were unable to donate to the swap. The Halloween Costume Swap will be held on Saturday, October 19 from 1-4:00 p.m. at Maring-Hunt Library. Attendees with tickets can shop the swap from 1-2:30 p.m. Then, from 2:30-4:00 p.m., anyone can visit the event to get a free costume or accessories to celebrate Halloween.
In addition to the Halloween Costume Swap, MPL has a number of fun and frightful events throughout the month of October. This includes an annual Scarecrow Festival, trick or treating at some MPL branches, a “Ghosts of Old Muncie” author presentation with local historian Chris Flook, and MPL staff participation at the Beech Grove Cemetery tours and at an Eerie Muncie lecture to be held at Westminster Village. The Beech Grove tours are $10, with the proceeds supporting the Old West End Neighborhood Association. All other events are free, and a library card is never required to attend events and activities at MPL.
The Halloween Costume Swap will be at Maring-Hunt Library, located at 2005 S. High Street. For more information about it or any MPL event, visit the MPL website at www.munpl.org or pick up a paper October event calendar, available at any MPL branch.
