MUNCIE, IN—Delta High School senior Kaiden Bond has become a role model both on and off the field. At school, classmates know him as a member of the basketball and football teams. Outside of school, youngsters look up to him in his volunteer work with Concrete Rose, a non-profit organization to encourage youth empowerment and leadership.

Bond takes his roles seriously and behaves accordingly.

“Younger people would look up to somebody that puts a good image of themselves out there,” he said, mentioning he strives to be that person.

Bond has appreciated the opportunity to volunteer often with Concrete Rose and even helped serve dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

“We have a meeting every month,” he said. “I enjoy that the most because I get to connect with people I don’t get to see every day.”

At school, Bond is also involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes along with the sports teams. This past year has been a successful athletic year for him with being sectional champions for football and winning through the first game of semi-state in basketball to earn third place in Indiana his junior year.

Through all his activities, he’s learned to prioritize his schoolwork during the school day.

“I try to do all my schoolwork at school, so I don’t have to take it home,” Bond said. “I’ve been just doing all my work in class.”

Occasionally he does have homework, but he’s tried to stay on-task during the day to avoid it as much as possible. One thing he advises other students that he learned the hard way is to stay on top of their work from the very beginning of high school.

“My freshman year I didn’t understand how much the grades meant,” he said. “I had three C’s my freshman year, and now I’m seeing that on my GPA. My GPA is still 3.2, but it’d be a lot better if I didn’t have that freshman year. I was just messing around.”

Bond is looking forward to a future playing college football and majoring in either psychology or criminal justice.
