MUNCIE, IN – Community members have the opportunity to receive free COVID-19 test kits, as well as no-cost Covid vaccination, at upcoming Open Door Health Services events.
Free at-home test kits will be distributed Monday, November 21 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Open Door’s administrative site, located at 220 S. Walnut St. in Muncie. The public is invited to pick up a supply for homes, workplaces, or civic organizations. Free test kits will again be available at the same location on Thursday, December 1 from 5-8 p.m. during Light Up DWNTWN events.
Free Covid vaccination, including bivalent boosters, will take place Tuesday, November 22 and Thursday, December 22 from 2-5 p.m. at Open Door’s downtown Muncie health center, located at 333 S. Madison St. No appointment is necessary, and all community members ages 6 months or older are eligible. Insurance information may be collected when applicable, but individuals receiving a Covid vaccine will not receive a bill.
The bivalent booster authorized by the FDA in early September 2022 targets the original novel coronavirus strain AND the B.4 and B.5 omicron subvariants.
CDC recommends the bivalent booster for individuals ages 5+ if it has been at least 2 months since either of these:
> The most recent monovalent booster (“monovalent” refers to the original booster type, prior to bivalent boosters being authorized)
> The final dose of an original Covid vaccine series
Additional Covid vaccination information, including a booster eligibility calculator, is at cdc.gov.
