Record Funds Raised for Second Harvest Food Bank
MUNCIE, IN—At a gathering last Friday afternoon, Ben Polk named award winners from the Soup Crawl event held earlier last month and presented a fundraising check to Robby Tompkins of Second Harvest Food Bank.
The Soup Crawl on October 6th in downtown Muncie raised $34,460 for Second Harvest’s school food pantry program. This will provide roughly 135,000 meals for families in need.
The People’s Choice Award, renamed this year to the Vickie Copley People’s Choice Award, was presented to Westminster Village for their Smokey BBQ Pulled Pork Soup.
Founded by Copley, who has since retired from PrimeTrust Federal Credit Union, Soup Crawl is an annual event in which restaurants and organizations serve soup samples in a contest hosted at sites throughout downtown Muncie. Tickets have sold out each of the past few years, and 2022 was no exception.
Tied for second place were Inside Out’s Chicken Cordon Bleu Soup and VKA Kitchen and Catering’sBacon Cheeseburger Soup. In third was Vera Mae’s Bistro’s Golden Mushroom Soup.
Soup Crawl featured 20 entries this year. Sponsorships, ticket sales and on-site donations comprise the fundraising portion of Soup Crawl which is always designated for programs of Second Harvest Food Bank.
