Muncie, IN—The tax deadline is Tuesday, April 18 and the trained and certified tax preparation volunteers of the AARP Tax Aide program are ready to help! The AARP Tax Aide program will be at Maring-Hunt Library from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday until April 14 to prepare and file taxes for those who need assistance.
AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) is offering the service, but people do not need to be retirees or at retirement age to get this assistance. In fact, there are no age restrictions or income limits for who can receive this free tax help. However, due to high demand, it is the service’s mission to emphasize help to those with low to moderate income and to the elderly.
Residents who would like to use the free service are asked to sign in with facilitators at the door beginning at 9 a.m. each Wednesday and Friday for free tax preparation on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals are also asked to bring a copy of last year’s taxes, photo IDs for all taxpayers, and social security cards for the individual and all dependents. Maring-Hunt Library is located at 2005 S. High Street in Muncie.
For those who are looking for paper forms for state and federal taxes, all standard forms are available for free pick up at all Muncie Public Library locations. Specialty forms and schedules can be printed off for a small printing fee of 15¢ per one-sided black and white page.
For additional information, please contact Laura Janiga, Adult Services Supervisor at Maring-Hunt Library, at 765-741-7331.
