The 2017 recipients of the Delaware County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship will be named in December 2016. Previous scholarship recipients were identified in March of the year they graduated from high school. This change affects the program for all Indiana community foundations.
The advanced timeline is the result of a “compelling recommendation” from community foundations who participated in a statewide evaluation of the program conducted by Lilly Endowment Inc. in 2015. During the evaluation process, a number of community foundations suggested that identifying Lilly Scholars earlier in the school year would give the recipients more time to decide which college or university to attend.
In selecting recipients for the Delaware County Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships, consideration is given to student activities and achievements, community and civic service, academic ability and potential for leadership. This includes an examination of SAT or ACT test scores. Students planning to apply for the scholarship should submit their completed application by their school’s deadline in late August or early September.
Deadlines for all other donor-established scholarships administered through The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. will remain unchanged; those applications will be due March 1, 2017.
