Artisan grilled cheese has made its way to Muncie. The Wedge is Yorktown’s newest dining establishment located just at the intersection of SR 32 and Nebo in Yorktown. Owner Steve Wickliffe says their mission is simple— to serve delicious food, at an affordable price.

“We want to offer more of a variety to the Yorktown area. We developed the menu 100 percent on our own,” said Wickliffe. The menu offers seventeen different sandwiches, including your standard classic grilled cheese.

Wickliffe was a teacher for over twenty one years prior to the opening of The Wedge.“I taught at Yorktown High school for ten years and although I grew to like cooking, I was still an amateur in the kitchen,” said Wickliffe.

During a past vacation, the Wickliffe’s found a food truck called Seaside that sold artisan grilled cheese. The sandwiches were a hit with the whole family, so the Wickliffe’s decided to open The Wedge Artisan Grilled Cheese Sandwich Shop.

Wickliffe says his wife Krista manages to help out with the shop, while also maintaining a full time job. Krista works in labor and delivery as a nurse and still makes time to help at The Wedge when she can.

Wickliffe says his kids are not as involved in the business. “My kids help on a very limited basis, we keep the separation of family and work.”

The Wedge has been open since November. Wickliffe says business is right where he expected it to be for the first year.
