It’s being called the biggest upset in an American Presidential election in recent history.
Indiana and the nation selected Republican Donald Trump as the next President of the United States. Trump and Vice President-Elect Mike Pence won 276 electoral votes over Hillary Clinton in a win that shocked both Democrats and some Republicans. Calling his win “our victory,” Trump declared, “Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division.” Voter turnout was reported as extremely high in many communities.
It was a big win for Republicans around the state, none bigger than the top of the ticket.
Indiana has chosen a new governor. Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb and Suzanne Crouch defeated Democrat John Gregg. Not only did the GOP sweep statewide offices — the races weren’t even close. Election officials across the state saw voter turnout at 60-70 and in some cases 80 percent.
Republican Jennifer McCormick defeated Democratic incumbent Glenda Ritz in the race for Superintendent of Public Instruction. McCormick, the superintendent of Yorktown Community Schools, focused her campaign on the need to improve communication between the Education Department and local schools.
The constitutional amendment to make hunting and fishing a protected right was overwhelmingly approved by Indiana voters.

Commissioner District 1: Incumbent James King
Commissioner District 2: Incumbent Sherry Riggin
Delaware County Council: Incumbent Scott Alexander, Jessica Piper, Larry Bledsoe Jr.,
Delaware County Surveyor: Republican Tom Borchers.
Delaware County Treasurer: Republican Ed Carroll.
