In honor of Indiana’s Bicentennial year, Muncie Public Library is hosting a screening of Hoosiers: The Story of Indiana: The Next Indiana on Wednesday, November 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Kennedy Library.
A panel discussion, What’s Next for the City of Muncie? will follow the documentary. Nancy Carlson, Delaware County’s Bicentennial chairperson and associate professor of Telecommunications at Ball State University will serve as moderator.
Panel members and the organization they represent include: Ginny Nilles, Muncie Public Library Director and MAP representative; Rebecca Parker, MPL Connection Corner Specialist; Micah Maxwell, Executive Director of the Muncie Boys and Girls Club; Terry Whitt Bailey, Director of Community Development for the City of Muncie; and Cheryl Crowder, Event Director at Muncie Downtown Development.
Donna Catron, Branch Manager at Kennedy Library, organized the event, which is sponsored by a grant from the Indiana Humanities. Catron was responsible for inviting panel members for the discussion. She wanted to include a variety of individuals including young adults, as well as established community leaders who may have more experience. “I wanted to get different viewpoints,” said Catron. She hopes the event will “get people thinking about the future of Muncie,” and is excited to see if the discussion “will spur something, with some of the ideas becoming a reality for our community.”
The documentary begins at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed immediately by the discussion. The event should conclude by 8:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public. Kennedy Library is at 1700 W. McGalliard Road.
