Muncie, Ind. – The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc., has announced that Ed Armantrout has been awarded the 2016 David Sursa Leadership Award to recognize his years of dedicated service to A Better Way Services.
Armantrout was nominated by A Better Way Services for his seven years of service as a member of their Board of Directors. He has held several leadership positions, including serving two years as President, one year as Vice President, and one year as Treasurer. He has also participated in the executive, nominating, finance, audit, facilities and fund development committees. Beyond serving in leadership roles, Armantrout has a record of leading by example being a vocal advocate for the organization, participating in events and asking others to as well, and providing annual financial support to the organization and asking for the same commitment from others.
In addition to being a committed volunteer to A Better Way Services, Armantrout works full time for Old National Bank, pastors two small churches, and regularly attends community events on behalf of other local nonprofit organizations.
“Ed’s leadership has been pivotal to the success that A Better Way Services has experienced over recent years,” said Teresa Clemmons, A Better Way Services Executive Director. “There have been difficult times, and Ed was a perfect person to lead us over the rocky road. He is calm, positive and resourceful. He provides support in a variety of ways. He has literally walked the walk, our Peace Walk, and brought with him pledges and fellow walkers.”
Mr. Armantrout was surprised with the award before A Better Way Services board meeting on August 22, 2016, in a private ceremony.
As Founding President, David Sursa blazed the trail for The Community Foundation. His visionary leadership contributed significantly to the success of the Foundation and to the generous support it has provided to our community. The award was established in memory of David Sursa’s outstanding contribution to The Community Foundation. The annual program rewards, recognizes, and encourages extraordinary nonprofit leadership by a board member displaying the characteristics and commitment to community expressed by Mr. Sursa during his lifetime.
Additionally, in David Sursa’s honor and to commemorate the award, The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County awarded a $1,000 grant to A Better Way Services.
