MUNCIE, IN—Last August, Muncie Central High School senior Fletcher Kahle tore his ACL for the second time in his high school career. Just like that, plans shifted a bit for the varsity football and baseball athlete. The seven-month recovery time for such an injury kept Kahle off the football field last fall, but he’s looking forward to school baseball this spring.
“Going through that recovery has taught me a lot about myself,” Kahle said. “I learned how to push through.”
While he was disappointed to miss playing football his senior year, Kahle took the injury in stride, recognizing there are bigger problems in the world. Fortunately, his injury and recovery did not limit another favorite activity of his: choir.
Kahle is passionate about music and plans to work in music production, composition or performance once he graduates with a communications degree from college. Right now, he’s strongly considering Indiana University.
With less than a semester left of high school, though, Kahle continues to prioritize his schoolwork and uses a planner to help him stay on top of it all. Whatever he does is working, since Kahle is also a member of the National Honor Society.
Outside of school, Kahle works at the YMCA through a Workforce Development program. He hopes to continue working at the YMCA after the program ends. Then in the summers throughout high school, Kahle has played baseball for the American Legion league.
“Sports teams…give you a lot of valuable life lessons,” he said. “You can learn a lot.”
Kahle enjoys being part of both the varsity football and baseball teams at Muncie Central High School. As a lifelong Munsonian, he’s proud of the school’s history.
Looking back over his time in high school, Kahle said he’d tell younger students to make sure they stay on top of their homework.
“If I don’t stay on top of my homework, and I get behind, then it’s just going to keep piling up,” he said.
Kahle also pointed out that many lessons can be learned outside of the classroom as well.
“There’s always a bigger lesson to everything,” Kahle said. “Whether that’s for sports or for school or for anything that you do in life, there’s always something you can learn from it.”
