MUNCIE, IN—Monday, January 20, 2025, marks the 40th celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Across the nation, communities will come together to honor Dr. King’s extraordinary life and enduring legacy. As we reflect on his profound impact, we are reminded of the power we hold to create change by following his example. This year’s theme for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is: “WHAT IS NEEDED: POWER, LOVE AND JUSTICE”
In the words of Dr. King, “Power properly understood is nothing but the ability to achieve purpose. It is the strength required to bring about social, political, and economic change. What is needed is the realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” – Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Southern Christian Leadership Conference, 1967)
To honor Dr. King’s life and teachings, the Concerned Clergy of Muncie, in collaboration with Ball State University, invites the community to participate in a series of events throughout the day on Monday, January 20, 2025. These events are designed to engage people of all ages in reflection, action, and celebration.
