MUNCIE, IN — The Soup Kitchen of Muncie is proud to announce the appointment of Kristina Houk as its new Executive Director, effective January 1, 2025.
Houk brings a wealth of experience in kitchen management, community outreach, marketing, and relationship building, as well as a deep commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting the Muncie community.
Houk succeeds Loretta Parsons, who retired after 13 years as Executive Director and 20 overall years of remarkable service to the Soup Kitchen. Under Parson’s leadership, the Soup Kitchen rebranded to improve marketing and outreach efforts, built new partnerships, navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, and persevered during a drastic increase in hunger after the pandemic.
In her new role, Houk will oversee daily operations, volunteer coordination, community outreach, and strategic partnerships. With a background in advertising, event planning, sales, and kitchen management, Houk has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a passion for service that aligns with the Soup Kitchen’s mission to provide meals and support to those in need.
“I am honored to join the Soup Kitchen of Muncie and look forward to working with our dedicated team of staff and volunteers,” said Houk. “Together, we can build on the organization’s incredible legacy and make a meaningful impact in the lives of our neighbors.”
The Soup Kitchen of Muncie, located at 920 E. Charles St., Muncie, serves hot meals and a sack lunch, Monday through Friday, free of charge, to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. On average, the Soup Kitchen serves about 200 guests a day.
The Soup Kitchen of Muncie relies on the support of volunteers and donors to carry out its mission and has been a cornerstone of the community for 30 years.
In appreciation for her service, her compassion, and her humanitarianism, the board is honoring Loretta Parsons by dedicating its dining room in her name and will be installing a plaque soon.
