MUNCIE, IN—September was Hunger Action Month. The Soup Kitchen of Muncie in partnership with Payless Supermarket, Muncie Schools and Auxilio Services aimed to fill a bus full of groceries and supplies to help feed those in need in our community.
“The donations and supplies collected during the Stuff-A-Bus event will be distributed to the Soup Kitchen of Muncie, Southside Middle School Panther Food Pantry, and the Ball State Cardinal Kitchen Food Pantry,” said Dottie Kreps, VP of the Soup Kitchen Board and event organizer. “Each of these organizations gives assistance to different segments of our community by providing food, or a meal, or other supplies to those in need.”
According to nonprofit organization Feeding America, almost 16% of Delaware County lives in food insecurity including 20% of Delaware County children.
Sarah Kreps, the other event coordinator, stated that every donation, big or small, helps and that the goal of the event was to not only stuff a bus but to make people aware of the need in our community for the services provided by the three organizations.
“Representatives from each organization were under a tent and talked to people about what they do and how to get involved whether it be through donating, volunteering or holding a fundraising or benefit event,” Kreps said.
