Muncie’s White River Cleanup Invites All to Volunteer

MUNCIE, IN—Since 2006, Muncie-Delaware Clean & Beautiful and the Muncie Sanitary District have rallied over 5,000 volunteers to eliminate 150,000 pounds of trash (including over 950 tires) from the White River. This Saturday, September 14, volunteers are invited to gather at West Side Park in Muncie to continue the tradition of beautifying the river. Families, student clubs, workplaces, churches, and other organizations are encouraged to volunteer together. The event is from 8 a.m. to noon.

Please remember the following information for the river cleanup event:

  • On-site check-in via your mobile device starts at 7:45 am at Muncie’s Westside Park. There are 15 cleanup sites along the river, extending as far west as High Banks in Yorktown to Memorial Avenue on Muncie’s east side. Our partners at Canoe Country provide transportation to and from each site.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own gloves and a water bottle. However, trash bags, hand sanitizer, clean safety vests, tools, and gloves will be provided at the event. Indiana American Water will be on-site with a water truck to offer filtered water bottle refills.
  • It’s important to remember that this is a river cleanup, so please wear clothes and shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty and wet.

We are always in need of crew leaders. Being a leader is easy and rewarding. There are no specific requirements for being a crew leader, but each person must complete a short crew leader training (dates are listed in the registration form) before or on the event day. Ideal crew leaders are responsible, aware of their team, and curious.
