MUNCIE, IN—Indiana Black Expo Muncie Chapter Celebrated Culture, Heritage, and Community and honored contributors to African American culture, progress and achievement in Muncie-Delaware County at the Ivy Tech John and Janice Fisher Building on Thursday, July 18, 2024 during its 29th Annual Corporate Luncheon.
The annual luncheon was the kick-off to the Indiana Black Expo Muncie Chapter’s annual Summer Celebration at Heekin Park, Saturday, July 19th-Sunday, July 21, 2024. This year’s theme was Educate. Empower. Elevate.
Mayor Dan Ridenour provided opening remarks and luncheon keynote, Muncie native, Dr. Mia Johnson, Chancellor of Ivy Tech Anderson, highlighted the power of education and community. Community awards were presented to local individuals and organizations for their work in the African American community and beyond.
Anitra Montgomery, Director of Director of Diversity, Equity and Belonging received the 2024 IBE Muncie Presidents Award for her work in education.
Muncie Juneteenth received the 2024 IBE Muncie Empowerment Award for their work to promote awareness and appreciation of African American history and culture in Muncie, Indiana through engagement, education, and empowerment.
Yvonne Thompson, Director of the Muncie Human Rights Commission, received the 2024 IBE Muncie Bea Moten Foster Community Service Award for her work to fight social injustice and racism and serve the broader community in ways that enhance peace, awareness, and advocacy.
The luncheon provided a special tribute that honored the life & legacy of the late Community Activist, and IBE champion, Demetrius “Dee” Harris.
