MUNCIE, IN—The Fieldhouse Classic, presented by Pizza King, will feature eight high-school boys teams matched in four exciting games at the historic Muncie Fieldhouse on Saturday, December 9th. Four Delaware County high schools, including Muncie Central, Burris, Delta, and Yorktown, will participate in the inaugural Fieldhouse Classic basketball invitational. They will be matched against teams from Lapel, Pike, Hamilton Heights, and Tipton.
The event will kick off at 2 pm with a matchup between Burris and Lapel. Following that game, at approximately 3:45 pm, Yorktown will face off against Pike and their new head coach and former NBA player Jeff Teague. The evening slate kicks off with Muncie Central playing Hamilton Heights at 5:30 pm, and the invitational ends with a battle between two highly touted teams entering the season in Delta and Tipton at 7:30 pm. An MVP award will be presented after each game thanks to event sponsor IU Heath Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
A live video stream production of the event will be facilitated in a unique partnership between the Muncie Sports Commission, Woof Boom Radio, and Burris Broadcast. Burris Broadcast is a student-run sports production program that has grown tremendously over the last few years. “The students are looking forward to playing such an active role in producing this great community event,” said Rob Jones, director of Burris Broadcast. The enhanced production will include multiple camera angles, social media highlights, and pre-produced hype videos for the local teams. The involvement of the Burris Broadcast program was made possible through the support of the Ball Brothers Foundation, which included a grant to cover some production costs and equipment for the group of students involved in the event.
“We are excited to produce an event highlighting a local gem in the historic Muncie Fieldhouse,” said Jon Anderson, Muncie Sports Commission executive director. “This is made even better by the student involvement in the production and participation of four local high school teams.”
