YORKTOWN INDIANA- The annual “Four for the 4th” run/walk returns to downtown Yorktown at 8:30 AM on the 4th of July, bigger and better than ever. Thrive Credit Union, the title sponsor has partnered with the Yorktown Community Schools Foundation to work together to raise funds to better the community, trails, parks, schools, and give away scholarships.
This year the overall male and female race champions will each win $1,000 in cash, and all students ages 19 and under that complete the 4-mile race will be entered for a drawing to win 3 scholarships each worth $1,000. This year through a generous sponsorship from AIRESERV, the 444th finishers may win extra big if the official temperature on the 4th of July reaches 94º or higher.
With a bit of heat, the top male and female finisher overall times will each win an additional $1,000, with 22 age group winners also each bringing home $1,000- The fastest male and female finisher for each of the following age groups: 20-24 // 25-29 // 30-34 // 35-39 // 40-44 // 45-49 // 50-54 // 55-59 // 60-64 // 65-69 // 70 and over.
Lastly, 3 additional scholarships of $1,000 each will be given away from randomly drawn registered youth finishers ages 19 and below. That brings the total eligible prize purse to a staggering $27,000.
With a goal of attracting 2,500 runners and raising $75,000 for the community, registrations are now open at www.fourforthefourth.run. The last day for a guaranteed t-shirt with each entry is Friday, June 23rd.
The race will kick off at 8:30 AM and is always a great morning of family fun with lots of baby strollers, dog walkers, and plenty of Uncle Sam costumes. The race will be starting and finishing this year at the new Yorktown Townhall building with a larger race village hosted by all the great sponsors and volunteers where racers and walkers will gather for awards, music, and fun after the race. Other activities include a cardboard and duct tape boat race at 2 PM, and fireworks at dusk.
