MUNCIE, IN— Mark your calendars for Muncie’s annual Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 29 at Minnetrista Museum & Gardens.
This FREE community event is a must-attend for tree lovers of all ages. This year is extra special, as we’re celebrating Muncie’s 25th anniversary of being a Tree City USA. And what better way to celebrate than by giving away eleven varieties of native saplings? The saplings will be given away on a first come first served basis from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Don’t miss your chance to take home a beautiful tree to plant in your yard.
Choose from a selection of canopy trees, which comprise the upper layer of the urban forest and typically reach heights of 40 to 90 feet, including Black Oak, White Oak, Chinkapin Oak, Red Oak, Norway Spruce, Shell Bark Hickory, Tulip Tree, and American Beech. The understory trees range from 8 to 20 feet and are generally more shade tolerant, including Redbud, White flowering Dogwood, and Sourwood.
The event will also feature fun-filled activities and crafts for the whole family. There will be additional giveaways and raffles throughout the event to make things even more exciting. And keep your eyes peeled for our special guest, Johnny Appleseed, who will make appearances throughout the event. Join in on the community engagement and educational opportunities, and enjoy a day filled with nature, excitement, and adventure.
Supplies are limited, so be sure to arrive early to secure your tree and enjoy all the festivities. Find a full schedule of events at minnetrista.net.
This event is put on in partnership with Muncie Urban Forestry and the City of Muncie.
