MUNCIE, IN—The Mitchell Early Childhood and Family Center received re- accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Mitchell is 1 of 7 programs in the Muncie community that are nationally accredited by the NAEYC.
Janette Stanley, the Director of Youth Development at Mitchell, says, “The reason this accreditation is so important is because we support high quality education and promote professionalism in the field. Thanks toNAEYC, we can utilize their resources for our staff, and the professional development that comes out of being affiliated is incredible.”
Mitchell collaborates with the Reggio-inspired community to foster the uniqueness of early childhood development through intentional child-led, play-based curriculum. This approach empowers their high-quality teachers to promote natural exploration through developmentally appropriate, planned activities. Using theresources provided by NAEYC, Mitchell’s teachers can continue to provide further high-quality education to our youth.
“To be recognized as a high-quality center sets us apart; we are a leader in the early childhood community. Because of our national accreditation, we can prepare pre-service teachers to enter the workforce with outstanding experience,” said Jennifer Gilland, the YMCA of Muncie’s Executive Director of Youth Development. Currently, Mitchell has 4 Administrators and 8 Lead Teachers who have their Bachelor’s degree, and 1 Liaison for the BSU Campus who has her Master’s degree.
Not only is Mitchell Early Childhood and Family Center serving students locally, but Mitchell is also providingthe same opportunities for pre-service teachers across the state. As a lab school, Mitchell provides a wide range of experiences to a broad range of programs, degrees, and occupations.
