MUNCIE, IN—Muncie OUTreach is celebrating its 10-year anniversary honoring the organization’s beginnings and looking toward its future by offering several family friendly events.
Founder and Executive Director Laura Janney is thrilled with OUTreach’s growth. “We have come a long way from offering brownies and board games at the Unitarian Church,” she said. “We continue to expand and grow as the need arises.” OUTreach is the only LGBTQ+ resource of its kind in East Central Indiana.
A large part of the 10 year celebration is the realization of Muncie’s first in-person Pride event September 3rd from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Canan Commons. Planning began for an outdoor festival in 2020 but was forced to go virtual the last two years due to the Covid pandemic. Three featured bands, Sweet Diezel Jenkins, The Blue 32 and Casual Encounters will perform, as well as Muncie Civic Theatre, Hoosier Spectacle, and Bob’s Balloons. There will be activities for kids, food trucks and a variety of local vendors. Glenda B Fierce will emcee.
A youth swim at Tuhey Pool is scheduled for August 28th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. This is a private OUTreach event, but all LGBTQ+ youth are welcome. Gibson’s Arena has been reserved for a family skate on September 29th.
OUTreach will host its first dinner and silent auction at the Ball State Alumni Center on October 27th. More details to come.
Founded in 2012, OUTreach serves LGBTQ+ youth, their families, and the entire community by offering safe spaces, resources, and education. OUTreach offers art, D&D, Gaymes, young adult groups, and youth programs throughout the year.
