Muncie, IN – Long before Downtown Abbey mesmerized audiences, Carmen flirted with Don José. Figaro married Susanna. And ‘Butterfly’ deeply loved Lt. Pinkerton. Join the Muncie Symphony Orchestra and guests for “Night at the Opera”, Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Emens Auditorium.
Tickets start at $20 for adults in advance and $5 for youth, K – 12. Contact the Emens Box Office at 765.285.1539 or visit munciesymphony.org.
“’Night at the Opera’ is basically opera’s greatest hits. We’ll have overtures, solo arias, duets, and the largest opera chorus in the land with the Masterworks Chorale and Ball State choirs,” says Douglas Droste, Artistic Director and Conductor. “This will be a fun concert with something for everyone.”
Guest Artists include Elizabeth Truitt, soprano, Mary Kathryn Brewer, soprano, Kathleen Maurer, mezzo-soprano, Hong Teak Lim, tenor, Jon Truitt, baritone, Craig Priebe, baritone, Ball State University Concert and Chamber Choirs, Masterworks Chorale, and Youth Symphony Orchestras of East Central Indiana.
Pre-concert talk begins at 6:30 p.m. in Williams Lounge, Emens Auditorium, with Douglas Droste and guest artists.
Jennifer Johnson, Executive Director, reflected on the upcoming concert. “The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies. There is an opera scene in this movie in which a beautiful female duet from the opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ is broadcast to the entire prison. Red, Morgan Freeman’s character, recounts ‘…Some things are best left unsaid. I’d like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can’t be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it.’ Opera has that power – to transport the listener to an emotional place.”
This 2015/16 season finale is supported by Gill Bros. Furniture and eKeeper Systems, presenting sponsors, and PrimeTrust Federal Credit Union, concert sponsor. Concert Support is provided by the George and Frances Ball Foundation. The 2015/16 season was made possible by the generosity of Muncie Power Products.
