What’s Earth Day Season?

You’ve probably heard about Earth Day, which is celebrated around the world on April 22nd each year since it first began in 1970. The day is dedicated to spreading the word about protecting the environment and using natural resources wisely. But have you heard of Earth Day Season? That’s a term coined by Wayne Meyer, a Green Team Coordinator at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Muncie (UUCM) to describe the many activities taking place in Muncie throughout the last part of April.

The UUCM was a recipient of a Solar Uniting Neighbors (SUN) grant that provided solar panels on the roof of the church. Muncie Public Library was also a SUN grant recipient and used the funds to construct a solar carport at Kennedy Library. EcoRehab and the Youth Opportunity Center are other local recipients of SUN grants.

Many of the grant recipients along with other community organizations are planning special activities during Earth Day Season. The events are varied and include nationally acclaimed documentaries, a locally produced video, and a solar fair featuring a speaker, solar energy vendors, and activities for kids. All events are free and open to the public! See the list below for details.
