The Muncie Boys & Girls Club will honor Muncie Parks & Recreation’s Superintendent Harvey Wright at its Great Futures Recognition Luncheon on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 sponsored by MutualBank.

The lunch event will begin at 11:30 AM at the Boys & Girls Club at 1710 S. Madison Street, Muncie, IN 47302. Jud Fisher, President & COO of Ball Brothers Foundation, will be the Featured Speaker for the Luncheon.

Children’s author Horatio Alger was well-known for his stories about young boys who come from humble beginnings and with hard work, integrity, determination and a strong dedication to help others, rise to respectable positions as community leaders.

Wright is known for supporting youth programs, has coached many youth football and basketball leagues and is a regular volunteer with youth sports, tournaments and events. As superintendent of Muncie Parks & Recreation, Wright is a constant support to the Boys & Girls Club and many other youth serving organizations by maintaining properties and supporting many activities and events.

Wright currently serves as the Superintendent of Parks for the City of Muncie. He was appointed to this position by Mayor Dennis Tyler in 2012.

He was born and raised on a farm in Randolph County. He attended Union High School and Balboa College. He also served in the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone.

Wright oversees 28 parks in the City of Muncie, including the 2,300 acre Prairie Creek Reservoir Park and the newly created Cornerstone Park which is part of the eastern gateway to the City of Muncie. Since he has been in officer, Harvey and his Staff have re-roofed cabins at Heekin Park, added gutters at McCulloch Park, removed damaged trees at all parks, added new cabins at Prairie Creek Reservoir and installed new metal signage in all of the local parks, replacing the worn-out wooden signs.

Wright previously worked as the Garage Foreman for the County Highway Department. He has over 20 years of supervisory experience, and 13 years of experience with building, ground and vehicle maintenance; and other administration duties.

Wright has been married to his wife Linda for 36 years and they have two married sons, Rick (wife Kim) and Donnie (wife Ashley). He has six grandchildren who attend Selma and Cowan Schools.

Wright is known for coaching youth football and basketball, and has coached many leagues throughout the Muncie community. He can also be seen on most weekends watching local games, or volunteering his time to assist little league baseball games, boxing tournaments, marathons, flag football games or park celebrations and events. He and his staff also support the efforts of Muncie’s community centers, maintaining their properties and supporting their activities.
