Muncie, IN—What can two bucks buy you these days?
Plenty, when the inaugural “$2 Tour of the Village” happens on Saturday, August 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. on a closed University Avenue between Calvert and Dill streets. Also closed will be Martin Street from North Street to Ashland Avenue.
The event is being hosted by Village merchants and the Riverside/Normal City Neighborhood Association.
But why?
“The Village sits in our neighborhood, so we decided to celebrate with a festival,” said Heather Williams, president of the RNC. “We hope both students and neighbors will come out to see what the Village merchants have to offer.”
As part of this effort to help Ball State students and the public become better acquainted with those Village merchants, lots of $2 items will be available for purchase from 33 shops, vendors and restaurants.
If that sounds familiar, it should.
“We’ve seen how popular “$2 Tuesday” is at the Indiana State Fair,” explained Nancy Carlson, RNC events committee member. “So we thought people would enjoy having lots of $2 choices in the Village, as well.”
So, what sort of choices?
They’ll include pizza, ice cream, tacos, spring rolls, tanning lotion, lighters (two for $2), T-shirts, cheese curds, chocolate goodies, cookies, suntanning and bubble tea.
But wait! There’s more!
Volunteers will hand out passports to the first 500 people. Those with passports can have them checked while visiting Village businesses. People with filled passports will be eligible to win prizes like gift certificates to restaurants, a Yeti mug, a custom-designed T-shirt and more. By the way, not only is admittance to this event free, but the first hundred people through the gates will be given $2 to spend, thanks to sponsor Mutual Bank.
Meanwhile, there will be live music on the closed streets. The event will be held rain or shine.
