Muncie, IN —Open Door Health Services is expanding access to walk-in medical care on Muncie’s southeast side. Open Door Urgent Care is now open at 1651 E. 29th Street, next to the south Walmart.
The opening marks a relocation of the community health center’s urgent care services. Open Door’s Southway Urgent Care, located in Southway Centre Plaza, saw its last patients May 5.
X-ray capability and the new location’s 11 exam and procedure rooms will allow staff to diagnose and treat a variety of needs on-site. At roughly 4,000 square feet, the space not only accommodates more visits, which totaled upwards of 9,000 in 2018, but allows for consideration of additional services, such as chiropractic care.
“We are excited to be able to improve access to healthcare services for anyone needing our care, regardless of their insurance or income status,” said Bryan Ayars, CEO. “This is particularly timely as hospital emergency departments are straining to meet demand. We can offer more timely and lower-cost services for many urgent but non-life-threatening conditions.”
As at all Open Door locations, a sliding fee scale offers discounts based on income and household size. Patients are not turned away for lack of insurance or ability to pay. Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance are accepted.
Urgent care hours will be Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Care is provided 363 days a year, with the office closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
A ribbon-cutting with the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce is planned for Thursday, May 16 at 1 p.m. The public is welcome, and a food truck will be on hand with lunch items for purchase.
