Muncie, IN—On Saturday, January 26, the Delaware County Historical Society will host its fifth annual beer tasting fundraiser at the Fickle Peach. From 1:00-3:00 PM, guests will sample different craft beers, listen to the history presentation Votes for Womenregarding Delaware County’s suffrage movement of 100 years ago, and can take part in our silent auction. All proceeds benefit the DCHS’ annual operations.
The beers sampled at the tasting are from breweries owned by women, or from breweries where a woman serves as head brewmaster. The Fickle Peach’s entire bar will also be open throughout the event.
About the Presentation
Do you proudly cast your ballot at election time? It’s only been since 1920 that women in the United States have had to opportunity to vote. Join Jessica Jenkins, curator at Minnetrista, for a brief look at the history the women’s suffrage movement. Through stories and anecdotes she will unpack what was happening both nationally and locally, and explore how the women of the Ball family got involved in the action.
About the Presenter
Jessica Jenkins is the Curator at Minnetrista in Muncie, IN. She holds a BA in History from Quincy University, and an MA in Public History from Central Connecticut State University. Ms. Jenkins has worked in museums and cultural institutions for over ten years, specializing in collection and exhibition curation.
In addition to her work with Minnetrista, she has served as curator of collections for the Litchfield Historical Society, Litchifeld, CT, and has worked with institutions such as the Connecticut Historical Society; Indiana Historical Society; and Indiana State Museum. In addition to developing history and fine art exhibits, Ms. Jenkins has also authored publications on topics ranging from woman suffrage to World War I poster art.
In 2015 she co-authored the book House of Worth: Fashion Sketches, 1916-1918. Her current book project, The History of Women’s Suffrage through 50 Historic Objects, is set to be published in 2020 by Rowman & Littlefield Press in conjunction with the centennial commemoration of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

All proceeds are tax deductible, the Delaware County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) organization.
The annual fundraising event marks the beginning of the Delaware County Historical Society’s annual fundraising and programming efforts. In 2019, the DCHS will focus programming efforts on the history of Delaware County’s women and Muncie’s African-American history.
The DCHS exists to enhance community development and quality of life in Delaware County by fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of local history and culture through advocacy, education, interpretation, stewardship, and service.
