Muncie, IN— The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. awarded $102,282 to 13 non-profit organizations during the third Quarterly Competitive Grant cycle of 2018.
The Community Foundation’s purpose is to improve the quality of life in Muncie and Delaware County for this generation and generations to come. Quarterly Competitive Grants are awarded to fund projects for which there is a demonstrable community benefit in one of the following areas of interest: arts and culture, human services, economic development, education and community betterment.
The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc. is a publicly supported philanthropic institution governed by a volunteer board of local citizens. The Foundation manages contributions donated by individuals, businesses, and corporations as a permanent community endowment. Distributions from these funds are given back to the community in the form of grants to non-profit organizations and agencies. To date, more than $50 million has been awarded to enrich the lives of the residents of Muncie and Delaware County.
Unless otherwise noted, the following grants were awarded from the Unrestricted Fund of The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, Inc.
Bridges Community Services received $8,800 (from the Bassett Family Fund and Louisa and Waldo Beebe Unrestricted Endowment Fund) to retain the SOAR Specialist to support the collaboration of homeless network providers.
College Mentors for Kids received $5,000 (from the Jeff and Beth Lang Fund and Mary Kate Pingry Fund) to impact more than 200 Delaware County elementary students through a Ball State University mentoring program.
Daleville Community Library received $3,982 (from the Faye Wingate Fund) to replace computer workstations and software.
East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra received $1,500 (from The Endowment for the Arts Fund) to support the 2018-2019 concert season.
Masterworks Chorale received $4,500 (from The Endowment for the Arts, Shafer/Muncie Power Products Legacy Fund in memory of Joseph E. Wilson, and Joseph and Janet Wilson Unrestricted Endowment Fund) to provide matching funds for a grant from Indiana Arts Commission that will support the Community Singers Workshop.
Mid-Indiana Trails, Inc. received $10,000 (partial funding from the Bill and Nancy Mitchell Living Well in Delaware County Fund) to support the implementation of the Prairie Creek Mountain Bike Plan.
Muncie Action Plan received $10,000 to defray the cost of administrative expenses.
Muncie Delaware Senior Citizens Council received $5,000 (from the MutualBank Charitable Foundation Fund) to replace lighting at the Forest Park Senior Center with new more energy-efficient options.
Muncie Innovation Connector, Inc. received $3,000 (from the Stefan and Joan Anderson Unrestricted Fund) to bring a speaker to the first Excellence in Innovation Educational IMPACT workshop in conjunction with the BIG Idea Pitch Competition and Excellence in Innovation Awards Banquet.
Project Leadership, Inc. received $32,000 (from the Bassett Family Fund, Jane Harrell Buckles Fund, Gordon and Pam Cox Fund, John and Janice Fisher Unrestricted Endowment Fund, Jane E. Hughes Fund, Francis Lafferty Fund, Michael O. and Nicole T. Lunsford Fund, Jim and Mary Rosema Fund, Jeanne and John Smith Unrestricted Fund, Charles and Claudia Sursa Unrestricted Named Endowment Fund, Mary Jane Sursa Fund, and Faye Wingate Fund) to support year-one efforts of the Delaware County Comprehensive Counseling Coalition, including college and career readiness programming to students at Burris, Cowan, Daleville, Inspire Academy, Liberty-Perry, Muncie, Wes-Del, and Yorktown schools.
Whitely Community Council received $10,000 (partial funding from the Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Fund, Linda and Connie Gregory Fund, Mid-West Metal Products Fund, and Martin D. and Helen B. Schwartz Unrestricted Named Endowment Fund) for staffing support to continue community efforts for self-sustainability through programs that impact healthcare, education, food insecurity relief, and safety.
YMCA of Muncie received $7,500 (from the Roni Johnson Fund and KAKATU Foundation/David and Joanna Meeks Fund) to purchase equipment and supplies associated with the start-up of before and after school care at four new locations in partnership with Muncie Community Schools.
Yorktown Public Library received $1,000 (from the 5000th Charitable Fund, Ind. Fund and Esther Ball Fund) to develop early literacy bags to be added to the library’s collection.
