Muncie, IN—Nine-year-old Callie Jones remembers it well.
“The first show I ever saw at Muncie Civic was ‘Annie’ about five years ago,” she said. “I loved it and knew right away that I wanted to be in theater too!”
“Annie” returns to the Muncie Civic stage, but you won’t find Callie in the audience this time around.
She’ll be the plucky little red head on stage belting out “Tomorrow.”
Muncie Civic Theatre will present the beloved musical “Annie,” starring Callie, on Aug. 17-19 and 24-26. Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The Tony Award-winning musical tells the based-on-a-comic-strip 1930s story of little orphan Annie, who is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage, run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. A series of adventures with her new dog, Sandy, ultimately lead her straight into the heart of billionaire Oliver Warbucks.
Callie, a fourth-grader at Yorktown Elementary School, described Annie as “someone who is optimistic, determined and spunky.” (Words that definitely describe this budding thespian as well.)
Callie said her favorite part of the production process so far has been “working with everyone in the show, especially my mom. I also love getting to work with the dog, Teddy. He is so smart!
“All the directors, actors and crew have been amazing!”
The result, she said, is “a great show with lots of amazing and talented people! I know everyone is going to love it!”
And YOU can be on stage, too. Well, sort of. The Christmas tree, owned by Daddy Warbucks, on stage is missing ornaments and the theater is inviting you to help decorate it. Bring an ornament from home to place on the tree (and get your picture taken with Annie) after the show.
