Muncie, IN—From the page to the stage, 23 stories that celebrate the lives of LGBTQ Muncie residents, and their allies, will be brought to life by actors on June 30th at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:00. This will be the second Facing Project Event of 2018, following Facing Teaching, and accompanies the publication of Facing LGBTQ+ Pride in Delaware County. All attendees will receive a free copy of the book.
“The Facing LGBTQ Pride stories tell a collective story of what it means to be in our community. These stories are often overlooked, minimized, and silenced,” said Dr. Renae Mayes, Chair of the Facing LGBTQ+ Pride Steering Committee. “However, if we listen closely, we find our power in uncovering this shared experience. We learn about how we make meaning of our identities. We learn about the power of relationships. We learn about heartache. We learn each other’s humanity. With these stories, taken individually and as a whole, we can start to see the areas where we, too, can make a change as individuals and as a community.”
Aside from the performances and book launch, the event will include concessions and vendors such as Queer Chocolatier, Muncie OUTreach, and the East Central Indiana Trans Alliance.
Tickets are FREE and can be reserved online at give.classy.org/facingpride.

Jamison and Kelsey Timmerman, the organization has connected writers, storytellers, artists, educators, and community leaders in over 75 communities across the country. Hailed by The Huffington Post, Harlem World Magazine, and Soul Train as one of three oral history projects to watch, The Facing Project provides a model, tools, coaching, and a platform for communities to arm themselves with stories to begin crucial conversations—neighbor to neighbor, community to community—by discussing solutions and exploring healing through their own narratives.
