Muncie, IN—If you consider yourself to be a connoisseur of sweets, then the Second Harvest Food Bank was THE place for you to be earlier today.
The 2nd annual Chocolate Celebration to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank took place at their offices from 11am to 2pm.
The event was sponsored by Morrison Woods Health Campus and resulted in $3,350 raised to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. That’s about $1,000 an hour for the duration of the event.
Judges for the event included Jay Julian, Jeff Sikora, Cassie Minch and Jack Surface. Each judge was provided with the same 12 chocolate items to taste. Judges were provided with a special scoring sheet to tally their score for each item on the basis of appearance, taste, consistency, originality and overall impression. All items for the Chocolate Celebration were made by hand.

Kevin Sheward’s Caramel Chocolate Cupcakes were so popular, he sold out. Kevin’s wife, Alex Sheward, works at Second Harvest Food Bank and asked him if he would put something together for the event. Kevin’s grandmother was a supporter of Second Harvest Food Bank and the recipe for the cupcakes came from her. Kevin said, “Out of our one bedroom apartment, I made 125 cupcakes. I started at around 5pm yesterday and finished at 12:30pm last night.”

2nd place: Lowery’s Home Made Candies—Caramel Pillow
3rd place: Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care—Turtle Cupcakes
Peoples Choice Winners were:
1st place: Lowery’s Home Made Candies—Assorted chocolates
2nd place: Kindred At Home—French silk pie cups
3rd place: Kevin’s Kreations—Caramel Chocolate Cupcakes
Karen McTague, who handles fundraising and grants for Second Harvest food bank said 100 percent of the proceeds from Chocolate Celebration are used to feed the food insecure in Delaware County.
Vendors who entered the Chocolate Celebration included: Morrison Woods Health Campus, Cardinal Cupcakes, Thrive Credit Union, Kevin’s Creations, Knapp Supply, Thirty-One Gifts, Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care, Kindred at Home, Koorsen Fire & Security, Lowery’s, Queer Chocolatier and Small Engine Warehouse.
