The Central Indiana section of the Audio Engineering Society will host its fourth annual Central Indiana Audio Student Workshop on Sept. 12 at Ball State’s Sursa Hall. The event is free.
The workshop will let audio students and professionals network and improve their skills through interactive demonstrations, lectures and panel discussions. Special emphasis will be given to career opportunities and essential skills that students and professionals need to succeed in the 21st century.
Keynoting the event will be Edward J. “UK” Nixon, multiple Grammy nominee, mix engineer, producer, motivational speaker and chief engineer for J.U.S.T.I.C.E League. Nixon has worked with superstars including Drake, Estelle, Anthony Hamilton, Young Jeezy, Sir Paul McCartney, Nas and Rick Ross. Throughout the day, those attending may interact with Nixon and are encouraged to bring their own mixes for critique and questions.
Regional employers on-site to discuss career opportunities will include Auralex Acoustics, Interlochen Center for the Arts, Klipsch Audio and Sweetwater.

Additionally, thousands of dollars’ worth of audio products donated by sponsors Auralex Acoustics, EarEverythng, Focal Press and sE Electronics will be given away as door prizes. Winners must have registered for the workshop and be present during the closing career panel.
Live in-studio and on-stage entertainment will include regional bands Dream Chief, Flight of the Fallen and Tonos Triad. Those staying in town Saturday night can show their official workshop badges and get in free to the indoor/outdoor concert stages at the all-ages venue near campus Be Here Now.
The workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Sursa Hall, inside the Music Instruction Building, 1809 W. Riverside Ave. Space is limited; to register, visit the Central Indiana Audio Student Workshop website for detailed information about presentations and schedules.
