One of Muncie’s newest nonprofit organizations has appointed a variety of community leaders to its Board of Directors. Sustainable Muncie Corporation announced this week that its 13-member governing group is complete. Michael Wolfe, Vice President and CTO at Ontario Systems, is the Board President and other officers include Vice President Todd Donati, Treasurer Sherri Contos and Secretary Kirsten Smith. Donati is the Executive Director of the Muncie Redevelopment Commission, Contos is the Executive Director of the Muncie Arts and Culture Council and Smith is the Assistant Director of Ball State University’s Center for Information and Communication Sciences.
Other board members include Mayor Dennis Tyler, Jeff Bird, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer at IU Health/Ball Memorial Hospital, Steve Moore, Vice President at First Merchants Bank, Linn Crull, Managing Partner at Whitinger, Julie Halbig, Vice President for Governmental Relations and Community Engagement at BSU, Andy Bowne, Chancellor, Ivy Tech East Region, Nick Tokar, Attorney at DeFur Voran Law Firm, Gary Dannar, Dannar USA and Trent Dowling, Senior Commercial Lender, Star Financial Bank.
Wolfe believes that the board reflects the right mix of experience to take on the transformation of the Cintas building into a community entrepreneurship and innovation hub. “We are fortunate to be in a position to engage this remarkably talented group to tackle the mission of Sustainable Muncie Corporation. These individuals are very successful in their respective professions and seasoned in community leadership. I am encouraged by the quality of this board and its willingness to dive right in and go to work.”
John Fallon, Executive Director the organization, was no less complimentary about the group. “The Board of Directors is key to the success of the organization in many ways. This group has seen it all and will be quite valuable in setting the strategic direction for the organization. I consider it a privilege to work with such an outstanding board.”
Sustainable Muncie Corporation has been in existence since December 2014. The organization’s current focus is the transformation of the former Cintas property at Madison and Jackson Streets in downtown Muncie into a maker’s hub. The organization’s larger vision includes establishing a constellation of live/work spaces adjacent to the facility to engage young entrepreneurs emphasizing job creation in the downtown area.
