Muncie, Ind.—Ivy Tech Community College has named Dr. Mia D. Johnson as vice chancellor of academic affairs for the Muncie campus and Ivy Tech Henry County location. Johnson began her career at Ivy Tech in 2008 in the certification and assessment center. She graduated from Muncie Central and calls Muncie home.
She has previously served Ivy Tech as an adjunct professor, registrar for the legacy East Central Region (Muncie, Marion, Anderson and Henry County), department chair of public and social services, dean of the School of Business, Public and Human Services, Computing and Informatics and Health Sciences.
Johnson’s academic journey began like many of Ivy Tech’s students. She was academically dismissed from IUPUI, but chose Ivy Tech to help get her back on track. After she earned her Associate of Science degree from Ivy Tech, she earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Charlotte, Masters of Science in Psychology from the University of Phoenix and her Doctorate in Global Leadership from Indiana Tech.
“Mia Johnson has extensive experience in education, and I know she will excel in this role.” Chancellor Jeff Scott said. “Mia brings a unique perspective as a former student, accomplished professor, and successful administrator. She is a true example of what Ivy Tech graduates can achieve. “
“This is my town and I am rolling up my sleeves to help be a part of the solution to the workforce challenges facing Muncie and Henry County.” said Johnson. “Knowing that I can play a role in helping as many people possible get the credentials necessary to find better employment is rewarding.”
Johnson is actively involved in Rotary International, Muncie YWCA Board of Directors, A Better Way, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Project Leadership and Phi Theta Kappa. She is married to Wayne and they have two sons, Miles (9) and Walker (7).
