Giving Tuesday at Muncie Civic Theater

Muncie, INGiving Tuesday is a day of charitable donations worldwide.
Today, Muncie Civic Theatre would like to share a story of giving back.

As the historic Muncie Civic Theatre prepares to open its doors again to the public after
months of renovations, it is still seeking donations to reach its goal of $2.5 million.

Everyone has their own personal story of why they give. For some, it’s love of the arts,
for others it’s more personal.  Clarence and Carol Casazza, long-time supporters of
Muncie Civic Theatre, have generously offered a matching gift up to $50,000 to help
finish the renovations.

Carol and Clarence have performed on Civic’s stage, and have been tireless volunteers
and fundraisers for the theater. Clarence was a 20+ year member of Civic’s Board of
Directors, helping to shape the theater’s success. Cathy Casazza, their daughter, grew
up performing at the theater. She was extremely talented and was featured in numerous
main stage musicals and in the Studio Theater, where she was particularly fond
of performing.

Cathy and her husband, Bill Wilkinson, moved to Chicago where they
continued to follow their passion for theater. Several years later they returned to the
Muncie area. Soon after her return, Cathy was diagnosed with breast cancer, but her love
of theater prevailed throughout her treatments and she continued to take on roles at
Civic as she fought hard against the disease that would ultimately take her life in 2009.

Cathy’s memory lives on through the family’s support of the Cathlene Casazza
Memorial Fund. The fund has underwritten many seasons of the Studio Theater,
provided much needed support for many special projects and has provided scholarships
for the Youth Program.

Civic plans to honor the Casazza family and their dedication to their historic home-
away-from-home with the the naming of the Casazza Family Studio Theater.

You can help by donating to the theater on Giving Tuesday. Civic will offer one-of-a-kind
Giving Tuesday gifts for different donor levels. For more information or to double your
Giving Tuesday Donation, please visit munciecivic.org or text “Uphold” to 41444.

The theater will officially open December 8th with Scrooge! The Musical.

 Giving Tuesday at Cornerstone

The season of giving is here, there are many ways to support your local arts center this holiday season. Here are a few ways you can give back to Cornerstone Center for the Arts.

Cornerstone is participating in the Giving Tuesday movement on Tuesday, November 28. Giving Tuesday is a worldwide day dedicated to strengthening communities, encouraging giving and celebrating generosity. Each year, Giving Tuesday takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to kick-off holiday giving. Local communities are encouraged to participate at the individual, nonprofit and corporate levels.

In celebration of Giving Tuesday Cornerstone has started a new program to support the families who receive financial aid at Cornerstone. Cornerstone will be putting together art supply packages for children to use during December and January when classes do not meet. You can sponsor a child’s art supplies by giving just $25. You may give online at cornerstonearts.org, at Cornerstone’s second floor desk, or at the Thanks for Giving Tuesday event at MadJax! The goal is to provide 50 children with their own bundle of art supplies. Donations will be accepted now through the end of the day on Giving Tuesday, November 28.

Cornerstone will participate in The Facing Project’s Thanks for Giving Tuesday event from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Cornerstone will receive $5 of the $10 fee of every ticket purchased in support of the organization. This event will feature two free beer samples provided by The Guardian Brewing Co., pours and tours of Guardian Brewing Company’s new facility, and music by Cliff Ritchey. Purchase tickets online at classy.org/events/-/e149984.

Giving Tuesday at BY5

BY5, Delaware County’s early childhood initiative, will participate in #GivingTuesday on Nov. 28, 2017. #GivingTuesday is a worldwide day of giving that kicks off the charitable holiday season by inspiring people to collaborate in improving their local community and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

BY5 has a goal of collecting $3,000 during its #GivingTuesday campaign, happening throughout the month of November. Donations will be dedicated to BY5’s early literacy initiatives—such as the Ready, Set, Read program, Book Patrol, and local book distributions—which provide children who do not have the resources to access books an opportunity to discover a love for reading and learning prior to entering kindergarten. Reaching this goal would provide BY5 the adequate resources to fund these programs for the upcoming six months.

To date, the Ready, Set, Read program has distributed 6,430 books to children throughout Delaware County. A donation of just $25 will place more than 30 books in the hands of children in our community, contributing to the city-wide initiative to prepare children for kindergarten. When children have access to these resources during their early development, their lifelong success impacts Delaware County’s economy long term.

Carrie Bale, Executive Director for BY5, is excited for the impact that the #GivingTuesday campaign will have on the Delaware County community.

“We have a variety of strategies that enable us to have children see and get books throughout the community,” said Bale. “From our Ready, Set, Read sessions, the new Book Patrol program, Little Free Libraries, and book giveaways, children can begin to build their own libraries at home! Through books, children experience language, and early language development is critical to children’s ability to read at grade level and positively impact our community in the future.”
