Muncie, IN – As the Christmas season approaches, The Salvation Army is preparing to kick off its Red Kettle Campaign. Though facing an exceptional challenge due to the loss of top fundraising locations, the organization still aims to raise $160,000.00 to fund critical programs and services in 2018. “The Red Kettle Campaign funds so much more than just gifts at Christmas for needy kids,” commented Lieutenant Jonathan Taube, “It means that we can help needy families in our community throughout the year.”
This season’s official kickoff event will take place at the Muncie Mall center court at 12:30pm on Saturday, November 18. It will feature an energetic performance from the Central High School Pep Band and holiday themed selections from Northview Elementary School’s choir. Mayor Dennis Tyler will share a challenge to the community and put the ceremonial first dollar into a Red Kettle.
The community is invited to join the festivities and help start the year’s campaign off with a bang.
The Salvation Army has engaged communities around the world through its iconic Red Kettle Campaign since 1891. This past year The Salvation Army statewide was able to provide over 2,000,000 meals and 130,000 nights of lodging to fellow Hoosiers. 83¢ out of every dollar given to the Red Kettle Campaign goes back into the community in the form of direct help and services to disadvantaged families.
Funds raised through the local Red Kettle Campaign stay in Muncie and Delaware County.
