Albany, IN—Albany will be celebrating Independence Day on Saturday July 1st with festivities downtown, in the big park and at the ball diamond for fireworks.
Saturday starts with breakfast at the corner of Broadway and State Street from 9 – 11am. Hosted by the Albany United Methodist Church & the Wright/Whitehair families. Proceeds from the free will offering will go toward the “A Better Life, Brianna’s Hope” chapter that recently started at the church. Drop by and have a great breakfast with your friends. They’ll have sausage gravy & biscuits, fruit cups, pancakes, scrambled eggs & sausage. Stay and chat a bit and then check out the car show. If it is raining Saturday morning, the breakfast will be held in the Youth Community Building north of the church on Broadway.
The car club “Twisted-Wrenches” will be bringing their cars to share with us and local residents are welcome to bring their cars also. The cost is $12 to register or $10 if you bring food items to be donated to the local food pantry. Registration begins at noon with the car show starting at 1pm. Cars will be lined up from Water to Plum on State Street. State Street will be closed to through traffic from 10am – 6pm. Car show participants need to come to Mississinewa and State Street to enter for registration and parking instructions.
Local organizations will have food available and activities for all ages in the big park, at the Water Street park and on State Street during the car show. See the list below of organizations and items available.
The organizations listed below will be having activities in or around the big park, Water Street park or between Main & Broadway:
Albany Volunteer Fire Dept – Fish fry, hamburgers, & hotdogs at the Fire Station from 11am – 6pm
Albany Police Dept will have the following activities at the Water Street park:
Corn Hole Tournament: registration begins at noon, tournament starts at 1pm
Toolbox raffle
Portable Shooting Range provided by Muncie Threat Assessment Center
Delta Theta Tau – Bake Sale
Albany EMS – Ambulance tours & cotton candy
Albany Christmas Committee – Ring Toss
Albany Lion’s Club – Snow Cones
Albany Fire Dept – FREE GAMES for the kids from 2-3:30pm in the big park (if it is not too soggy from all the rain of late.)
Tri Kappa – Lemon Shake-ups
The best location to view the fireworks is at the elementary school ball diamonds. The Baseball League will have their concession stand open and the Dairy Dream & Pete’s Duck Inn will also be open to provide you with many options for dinner or snacking while you wait for the fireworks to begin or during the show.
Albany will have a DJ this year, Chad Henry, from 8:30pm until the fire works start at the ball diamond for your listening pleasure. He will play patriotic songs during the fireworks also.
Albany has partnered with Patriot Fireworks and expects to have an awesome show again this year. The fireworks will begin at dusk, around 10pm.
