Dual credit students within Ivy Tech Community College’s East Central Region earned approximately 24,980 college credits; resulting in nearly $3.4 million in college tuition savings
Muncie, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College’s East Central Region continues to see growth in its dual credit program serving approximately 4,700 students in 2016-17. These students earned an estimated 24,980 college credits, which could save families nearly $3.4 million in college tuition costs. Ivy Tech serves 95 percent of traditional public high schools participating statewide in its dual credit program, which is free to students, the only no-cost option in the state.
Overall, 50 high schools/career centers have dual credit agreements with the Ivy Tech Community College East Central Region, offering more than 41 courses and 544 sections across the region. Eighteen dual credit students graduated this spring with either an associate’s degree, a technical certificate, or a certificate within the region.
“The dual credit courses offered throughout our East Central Region serve as another great example of our commitment to the improvement of the communities we serve,” said Alex Huskey, interim chancellor of the Ivy Tech Community College East Central and Richmond Regions. “The dual credit program has proven to be an effective way to get high school students on post-secondary education pathways. These pathways allow them to earn college credits and/or workforce relevant credentials while receiving their high school diploma at no cost to the students or their families.”
Ivy Tech Community College’s East Central Region has also seen increased Statewide Transfer General Education Certificate (STGEC) pathways being developed at high schools throughout the region as 15 STGEC students graduated high school with a year of earned college credits valued at $25,000 including tuition, books, and room and board at a public university. Additionally, approximately 100 high school juniors are on target to earn an associate of science, associate of arts, STGEC, technical certificate, or a certificate based on total credits and estimates from early college high schools within the region.
