MUNCIE, IN – Shawnee Heights Baptist Church has announced the closure of its doors after years of serving the Muncie community. As part of its final act of service, the church has generously donated $50,000 to the YWCA Central Indiana to further its efforts in providing essential support and services to unhoused women and children throughout the region.

The donation comes as the church’s congregation reflects on its mission to serve those in need and its commitment to empowering vulnerable populations. Through this gift, Shawnee Heights Baptist Church aims to support the YWCA’s continued programming, which includes emergency shelter, housing assistance, and essential resources for women and children who are experiencing homelessness.

“The Trustees of Shawnee Heights Baptist Church shared that the decision to close the doors of Shawnee Heights Baptist Church was not made lightly, but they wanted to leave a lasting legacy of compassion and care,” said YWCA Central Indiana CEO, WaTasha Barnes Griffin. “Shawnee Heights church has always been committed to supporting our neighbors, and this donation to YWCA Central Indiana is a way for us to continue making an impact on the lives of those in need.”

YWCA Central Indiana has been a vital organization in the region, providing vital services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, and other challenges. With this donation, the YWCA will be able to expand its programs, ensuring that more women and children receive the help they need to regain stability and safety.

“We are incredibly grateful to Shawnee Heights Baptist Church for this generous donation,” said WaTasha Barnes Griffin, CEO of YWCA Central Indiana. “This gift will help us continue our mission of empowering women and children and will provide much-needed resources to ensure that they have the opportunity to rebuild their lives.”

While Shawnee Heights Baptist Church may be closing its doors, its commitment to the community continues through this substantial gift to support those who need it most. The donation is a testament to the enduring legacy of faith and service that the church has exemplified over the years.
