MUNCIE, IN—A fourth quarter grant from Indiana Michigan Power and the AEP Foundation blessed Muncie Mission with a new vehicle for pick-ups and deliveries. The panel delivery van will support the Mission’s efforts to rescue food donations from local restaurants, food producers, and distribution centers, as well as move clothing, furniture and household items among ministry locations. “This gift is truly a blessing, especially now during the busy holiday season,” said Bob Scott, VP of Development at Muncie Mission. “We’ve already used the van to pick up donations from canned food drives, winter clothing collections, and Christmas gifts for our guests from our church friends and local businesses.”
Indiana Michigan Power and AEP Foundation have made several gifts to support the work of the Muncie Mission. “We believe in what they are doing to care for neighbors who are hurting,” said Rob Keisling, External Affairs Manager at I&M. “Meeting basic needs like food and housing is a key focus area for the AEP Foundation, and the Mission is a great partner.”
Community needs are heightened as the cold weather sets in. In addition to providing shelter for 80-90 men each night, the Muncie Mission provides a free community lunch every weekday, and a food, clothing, and hygiene pantry available on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The Mission also partners with other agencies in operating the Muncie HUB, a daytime service center for those who are unhoused. All of these programs see increased needs during the winter months. Families, churches, and local businesses can continue to support the Mission with food drives, coat collections, and financial contributions. “We are very grateful for the surge in support we receive leading up to Christmas,” said Scott. “But after the holidays, we enter some of our most challenging months.”
